alas, there will be people who will succumb to Sulpicio Lines’ bait. given the current (mal)practice of overloading and shady passenger manifests, the Php200k pay-off would still be much cheaper for the company than to resolve each of the claim cases in court.
this might be answered by legal books and laws but for settlement/claims issues, in the absence of corporal evidence, when can you legally declare a person dead? will the said timeframe be sufficient so as not to forfeit your right to claim compensation from sulpicio lines (or transport carrier in question)? i mean come on, how do you suppose the bereaved ones will come up with a valid death certificate of their loved ones within the next few months just to file claims?
if only all of us were insured (then we would be dealing with another can of worms).
